The Isle of Islay is situated off the Mull of Kintyre and can be reached by both ferry and air.

Getting to Islay by Car/Sea

Approximately 2.5hrs car journey from Glasgow along the shores of Loch Lomond, Loch Long and Loch Fyne. The ferry port of Kennacraig is five minutes from the village of Tarbert on the A83.

Kennacraig is also serviced by West Coast Motors which leave twice daily from Glasgow Buchanan Street Bus Station. Call Citylink for details: 08705 505050 or visit www.citylink.co.uk.

Getting to Easter Ellister Farmhouse and An Linnean

Easter Ellister farm is situated four miles past the village of Port Charlotte on the Rhinns of Islay. It is approximately 40 minutes from the port of Port Ellen, 35 minutes from the airport and 30 minutes from the port of Port Askaig.

From Port Ellen or the airport – take the A846 to Bridgend and take a left turn signposted to Portnahaven and Port Charlotte on the A847. From Port Askaig take the A846 to Bridgend and take a right turn onto the A847.

Pass through the village of Port Charlotte and continue on this road, after approximately four miles you will come to a small lake on the left hand side of the road. Just after the next bend in the road you will find the driveway to Easter Ellister on your right. Ellister House is the first house you come to on the left hand side – there is parking right outside the door.

For An Linnean continue up past the farmhouse, taking the road which forks gently to the right and up the hill past the greenhouse. An Linnean is at the top of the farm.

Please watch out for chickens in the road as you go up the driveway!
